Hope After All

by Willi Brown

Damn

those other worlds

I've heard enough.

So now

                        it's merely a matter of

                        coffee and a nice place

to sit.

            I'll read something innocuous

                        about some tragic

                                    current event.

There will be

no act

of healthy outrage.

I'm tired of playing

            face the nation.

And you

            "talk to me of scenery!"

            Things escape you

            that do not escape me.

Of course

                        "what has been done

  in my country"

I did not want,

our only hope is that

"nothing lives long

only the earth and the mountains".
